MOVING "1988"

I've never talked about a movie on this blog but I couldn't help but to tell ya'll about this one. I was 4 years old when it came out and 42 years old when I discovered it. It's called MOVING it was written by: Andy Breckman, Directed by: Alan Metter and it starred Richard Pryor

This movie was about a black family that had to move from their hometown to a new city because of the Father's new job. The thing that compelled me to write about this movie was all the levels of emotional regulation skills it showed. Let's break them down.

This was a family of 5. There was a mother, father, teenage daughter (senior in high school) and two twin boys who were in maybe 8th grade. The father was offered a high paying job in another city 6hrs from their hometown. The Mother didn't want to leave her family and friends and the daughter didn't want to leave before she graduated. The twins didn't want to go but they went with the flow.

I feel like the wife didn't put up much of a fight because she trusted her husband. When you trust a person it is easier to make a decision without panicking or being full of worry. I observed throughout the whole movie that the mother knew that she could depend on her husband no matter the situation which gave her a sense of calm throughout the chaos of the move. Her calm demeanor was highlighted throughout the film. I couldn't get over how chill she was and I knew that, that's the kind of calm I want to depict in life. Even though it was a movie I know that type of calm exist.

Their daughter however was totally against the idea and didn't want to go. She did the most inconvenient things she could think of when her parents was trying to sell the house. The parents even came together and used emotional regulation skills when dealing with her. I know some parents who would've literally tried to kill that child for some of the stuff she pulled. The way they reprimanded her was hilarious, they did what needed to be done effectively as a team.

This movie even depicted an emotional crash out and it was done very tastefully. For me this movie showed how to deal with difficult people and how to be calm in the midst of several storms. I was like ooooh wow it is possible to be calm even when everything is falling apart around you. Hindsight is 20/20 and I can see how things could've been handled different in my life.

Letting go of the past involves being able to see where you went wrong and handling things different in the future. Some things may not lead to a second chance but we do what we can. This movie spoke volumes to me and it showed how life can still be beautiful & held together by duct tape at the same time.

A Recovery Love Story

Thank you Cliff for allowing me to write the love story of you & your Beautiful wife! I found this just tear jerking ❤️        There was a time in my life when my one true love was wine and spirits. I mean I knew drinking wasn't good for me & I played around with the thought of stopping every once in a while, but never enough for anything to stick. I wasn't the AA type of guy, I didn't feel the need to express my problems with a group of people. I didn't think that would be my route to recovery if I ever decided to stop. What I didn't know was that I was right. One day I was driving, on my way to take myself fishing. I had a 12 pack of Bud Light in my ice chest in the trunk. As I was driving I couldn't wait to pop a can open & feel that cold refreshing taste.      As I drove I passed a church tent revival. I slowed down for no particular reason & laughed to myself. I guess I caught them in a moment. Watching them as they were run...

Finding Self PT 10 (Watch Me Flow)

After the injury everything changed. Being laid up like that with no help. I had to hobble to the market only to be ran over by crowds of people that I couldn't keep up with. Being left by the Lyft because the driver couldn't figure out how to come around the corner. Just feeling helpless, abandoned and stranded. Feelings like this will put things in a different perspective really fast. Some people out there have major support and people around to help when things get tough and some people simply just don't. For me I'm one of the one's that don't but I find that strangers are always kinder to me than my own family who is by society's standards supposed to be our first safety net & supporters.       N-E-how being laid up like that and alone I had more uninterrupted time to think than I ever did in my life. Self reflection questions that I never even thought of started to pop into my mind. The first one was career wise. The question was ...
