Remember book reports when we were in school? For some they were a dreaded terrible thing, for others they were fun ways to recall your favorite book and an easy format to tell someone what the book was about. I've decided to post some reports of books I've read recently; let's jump right in.
I also wrote and published 6 books you can check them out here: https://www.lulu.com/search?sortBy=RELEVANCE&page=1&q=Jodie+Spartz&pageSize=10&adult_audience_rating=00
I came across this book at a mental health respite in Brooklyn NYC. I was initially attracted to the bright colors of the cover. I read what it was about and thought why not read it.
Author: Adam Langer
Title: CYCLORAMA
Main Characters: The cast of the play & the director of the play
Setting: Evanston, Illinois 1982
Plot: This story follows ten high schoolers cast in the play and their charismatic, yet emotionally abusive and predatory drama director, In 1982, the director creates a rift in the cast by casting an underclassman instead of an experienced senior, kicking off a series of secretive interactions at the director's house that haunt the actors for decades.
Personal Endorsement: This was a fun cringy read. I enjoyed the rollercoaster ride, being apart of the characters lives. This story made me look at ten different people's perspective on life and the situation they found themselves in. Sometimes the past has a way of not staying in the Past. I'll share with you some of the things that stuck out to me while reading this book.
* If you were certain where you wanted to go, people would follow you and help you get there. Some would follow because they loved you, some because they were afraid, some just because they had nowhere to go and any plan was better than none.
* Maybe some day I'll settle down, but there are so many different lives you can try out.
* That's how it always works, I'll tell people my story and they start to cry.
* She couldn't help but see that everything happening tonight had been caused by love or what people had mistaken for it.
* Better to always keep a distance, she thought. Don't ever get too close; if anyone ever does, tell them to run for their lives.
* Some things you just can't fix
* In spite of everything, she still didn't believe that people were good at heart. But if you were lucky enough to find one or two who were, then you might have a shot, and as long as she lived, she would try her best to be one of them.
* Did people really think they could just pretend the past hadn't happened? That you could just erase her life, her story, and replace her with new people who hadn't paid any of the dues she and her family had.
* One thing we know about Lady Justice: her bitch ass never shows up on time!
* I'm through with it all, from here on in, I shall lead a solitary life. I would become a nun, they will never fall in love with me!
* What was the point of having people work for you if you don't let them do their job?
There was a shocker; one of the characters called Post Malone's music bullshit. I thought to myself oh no he didn't.
